Our Mission

Connecting Animals and Resources to Empowering Solutions

We developed Laddie’s Legacy to help keep pets connected to their loving families. Laddie’s Legacy strives to prevent clients from having to make difficult decisions as a result of financial constraints. Even ONE premature euthanasia is too many!

His Journey

Laddie

Laddie, a former patient, was a very large, beautiful Maine Coon kitty. Laddie was one of our most outgoing resident hospital cats!

Laddie was an amazing boy. He was bold by nature, a great problem-solver, and a master of thievery.  He held the record for the most stolen lunches. Laddie ate so many staff’s lunches downstairs that he got sick and had to move upstairs.

Once upstairs, Laddie developed many new skills, which included hanging up on clients; dialing the phone; attending every interview, training, and meeting; typing; and sending out emails. In one day, Laddie had managed to send out 140 emails, and he typed a two-page document with ZERO errors! (The entire document was one character – two pages of back slashes \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\).

In his 1 ½ years with us, Laddie needed a couple of major surgeries. He successfully survived the first surgery – a polyp removal from his sinuses, but in August of 2021, Laddie needed a very serious surgery called a Teca – Total Ear Canal Removal. Since Laddie’s favorite spot upstairs was on Cherie’s desk (where he had done most of his work), Cherie (Laddie’s Legacy Executive Director) was able to take Laddie home to recover.

Laddie lived the remainder of his life with Cherie, and a house full of fur-siblings: Fia, Roxi (Newfoundlands), Tucker, Willow, Pirate, Sparrow (kitties), Pete, and Pansy (English Lop Bunnies). Unfortunately, the surgery was very hard on poor Laddie, and he had great difficulty with recovery.

In October 2021, Laddie let us know that he had received his calling from across Rainbow Bridge. On a cool Saturday morning, Laddie gained his wings comforted in love by many members of the AVH family.

Laddie’s life was so full and meaningful. This amazing boy will live in our minds and hearts forever!

Legacy - leg·a·cy

When a soul dies, the mark the individual left on the world represents that individual's legacy. ... It is about the richness of the individual's life, including what that soul accomplished and the impact he had on people and places. Ultimately, the story of an individual's life reflects the individual's legacy and establishes a purpose.

This is how our program got it's name,

Laddie’s Legacy
